Abstract
This invention encompasses trunk piston engine lubricating oil compositions, comprising a major amount of one or more Group I base oils; and one or more dispersant additives, wherein the concentration of the one or more dispersant additives within the trunk piston engine lubricating oil composition is about 0.2-0.6 wt. % on an actives basis; and methods for making and using the trunk piston engine lubricating oil compositions.
Claims23
A trunk piston engine lubricating oil composition, comprising:
- a. a major amount of one or more Group I base oils;
- and
- b. one or more dispersant additives,
- wherein the concentration of the one or more dispersant additives within the trunk piston engine lubricating oil composition is about 0.2-0.6 wt. % on an actives basis, and wherein said composition has a total base number of at least about 12.
A black sludge-minimizing trunk piston engine lubricating oil composition, comprising:
- a. a major amount of one or more Group I base oils;
- and
- b. one or more dispersant additives,
- wherein the concentration of the one or more dispersant additives within the trunk piston engine lubricating oil composition is about 0.2-0.6 wt. % on an actives basis, where said composition has a total base number of at least about 12, and wherein the trunk piston engine lubricating oil composition reduces black sludge formation in an engine by at least about 5%, when compared to a dispersant-free lubricating oil composition.
A viscosity-stabilized trunk piston engine lubricating oil composition, comprising:
- a. a major amount of one or more Group I base oils;
- and
- b. one or more dispersant additives,
- wherein the concentration of the one or more dispersant additives within the trunk piston engine lubricating oil composition is about 0.2-0.6 wt. % on an actives basis, wherein said composition has a total base number of at least about 12, and wherein the composition has at least about 5% less oxidation-based viscosity increase, when compared to a dispersant-free lubricating oil composition.
A method for making a trunk piston engine lubricating oil composition, comprising mixing:
- a. a major amount of one or more Group I base oils;
- and
- b. one or more dispersant additives,
- wherein the concentration of the one or more dispersant additives within the trunk piston engine lubricating oil composition is about 0.2-0.6 wt. % on an actives basis, and wherein said composition has a total base number of at least about 12.
A method for reducing black sludge and deposit formation in an engine, comprising lubricating the engine with a trunk piston engine lubricating oil composition, comprising:
- a. a major amount of one or more Group I base oils;
- and
- b. one or more dispersant additives,
- wherein the concentration of the one or more dispersant additives within the trunk piston engine lubricating oil composition is about 0.2-0.6 wt. % on an actives basis, and wherein said composition has a total base number of at least about 12.
A method for operating a trunk piston engine, comprising lubricating the trunk piston engine with a trunk piston engine lubricating oil composition comprising:
- a. one or more Group I base oils;
- and
- b. one or more dispersant additives,
- wherein the concentration of the one or more dispersant additives within the trunk piston engine lubricating oil composition is about 0.2-0.6 wt. % on an actives basis, and wherein said composition has a total base number of at least about 12.
