Pacing of transport stream to compensate for timestamp jitter

An electronic device comprising:

• at least one network interface operable to receive data packets carrying transport packets of a transport stream, at least some transport packets of the transport stream carrying Program Clock References (PCRs);
• and
• jitter removal circuitry coupled to the network interface and comprising:
• a data buffer operable to receive the transport packets and to store the transport packets;
• pacing counter clock circuitry operable to produce a pacing counter clock and to adjust a frequency of the pacing counter clock based upon a pacing counter clock adjust signal;
• pacing control circuitry operable to produce the pacing counter clock adjust signal based upon receipt of the transport packets;
• and
• PCR packet pacing circuitry operable to:
• receive the pacing counter clock;
• based upon the packing counter clock, retrieve transport packets from the data buffer;
• and
• transmit the retrieved transport packets as an output transport stream.

A method for de-jittering a transport stream, at least some transport packets of the transport stream carrying Program Clock References (PCRs), the method comprising:

• receiving the transport packets via a network interface;
• storing the transport packets in a data buffer;
• producing a pacing counter clock;
• producing a pacing counter clock adjust signal based upon receipt of the transport packets;
• adjusting a frequency of the pacing counter clock based upon the pacing counter clock adjust signal;
• based upon the packing counter clock, retrieving transport packets from the data buffer;
• and
• outputting the retrieved transport packets as an output transport stream.
