An accessory releasably engages the rail and uses the power provided to the rail to power the accessory. The rail may also support non-powered accessories. In one embodiment the device for providing power to the rail comprises a power strip releasably mounted on the rail. The rail may include a first rail segment and a second rail segment where the device for providing power to the rail comprises a power strip located between the first rail segment and the second rail segment. The device for providing power to the rail may comprise an electrical conductor extending along a length of the rail. The electrical conductor is powered by a power module that connects to the rail.
