Abstract
Cargo cart 10 has front castors 32 and rear wheels 34 and can be used independently or attached to a conventional walker 101. Cart 100 includes a hitch 500 adjustable in height for selectively connecting cart 10 in front of walker 101 with rear wheels 34 off the ground such that walker 101 propels and steers cart 10 in response to user's control of walker 101.
Claims20
A cart selectively attachable to a walker having a wheeled front end and a crossbar, which travels over a surface;
- comprising:
- a cart frame including
- a first end;
- a second end spaced apart from said first end;
- said first and second ends defining a longitudinal axis therebetween;
- a cargo support;
- and
- a handle;
- at least one caster attached to said second end for rollingly supporting said second end on the surface;
- a pair of wheels attached to said first end in a spaced-apart relationship for rollingly supporting said first end, each said wheel having a rotational axis perpendicular to the longitudinal axis;
- and
- a hitch assembly including:
- an elongate member including:
- an attached end attached to said cart frame;
- and
- a hitch end including:
- selective attachment means for selective attachment to the crossbar of the walker;
- said elongate member movable from an unattached position wherein said attached end and said hitch end are proximal said cart frame to an attachment position wherein said hitch end is distal said cart frame and positioned for selectively attaching said cart to the crossbar of the walker such that said pair of wheels is supported above and not touching the travel surface and said caster is in contact with the travel surface;
- such that propelling and steering the walker results in propelling of said cart and steering said cart in the same direction as the walker;
- and such that in the unattached position, said pair of wheels contacts the travel surface, allowing said cart to be used independently of the walker by using said handle to control said cart.
A cart selectively attachable to a walker having a wheeled front end and a crossbar, which travels over a surface;
- comprising:
- a cart frame including
- a first end;
- a second end spaced apart from said first end;
- said first and second ends defining a longitudinal axis therebetween;
- a cargo support;
- and
- a handle;
- at least one caster attached to said second end for rollingly supporting said second end on the surface;
- a pair of wheels attached to said first end in a spaced-apart relationship for rollingly supporting said first end, each said wheel having a rotational axis perpendicular to the longitudinal axis;
- and
- a hitch assembly including:
- a first elongate member including:
- an attached end attached to said cart frame;
- and
- a hitch end including:
- selective attachment means for selective attachment to the crossbar of the walker;
- a second elongate member including:
- an attached end attached to said cart frame;
- and
- a hitch end including:
- selective attachment means for selective attachment to the crossbar of the walker;
- said elongate members movable from an unattached position wherein said attached ends and said hitch ends are proximal said cart frame to an attachment position wherein said hitch ends are distal said cart frame and positioned for selectively attaching said cart to the crossbar of the walker such that said pair of wheels is supported above and not touching the travel surface and said caster is in contact with the travel surface;
- such that propelling and steering the walker results in propelling of said cart and steering said cart in the same direction as the walker;
- and such that in the unattached position, said pair of wheels contacts the travel surface, allowing said cart to be used independently of the walker by using said handle to control said cart.
In combination:
- a walker that travels over a surface;
- said walker including:
- a front end including:
- at least one wheel for traveling over a surface;
- a crossbar including:
- lateral stop means;
- and
- control means connected to said front end for accepting movement and steering by a user;
- and
- a cart selectively attachable to said walker, including:
- a cart frame including
- a first end;
- a second end spaced apart from said first end;
- said first and second ends defining a longitudinal axis therebetween;
- a cargo support;
- and
- a handle attached to said frame;
- at least one caster attached to said second end for rollingly supporting said second end on the surface;
- a pair of wheels attached to said first end in a spaced-apart relationship for rollingly supporting said first end, each said wheel having a rotational axis perpendicular to the longitudinal axis;
- and
- a hitch assembly including:
- a first elongate member including:
- an attached end attached to said cart frame;
- and
- a hitch end including:
- selective attachment means for selective attachment to the crossbar of the walker;
- said first elongate member movable from an unattached position wherein said attached end and said hitch end are proximal said cart frame to an attachment position wherein said hitch end is distal said cart frame and attached to the crossbar of the walker such that said pair of wheels is supported above and not touching the travel surface and said caster is in contact with the travel surface and said lateral stop means of said crossbar prevents lateral movement of said hitch end along said crossbar;
- such that propelling and steering the walker results in propelling of said cart and steering said cart in the same direction as the walker;
- and such that in the unattached position, said pair of wheels contacts the travel surface, allowing said cart to be used independently of the walker by using said handle to control said cart.
