Abstract
A single cell for a solid oxide fuel cell having wave-like architecture and a stack composed of such single cells is described. The cell design provides high durability. The stack design provides uniform distribution of reagents along the surface of the electrodes and between the individual cells. In addition the stack design is non material intensive.
Claims10
An MPC architecture represented by a wave-like plate of solid oxide consisting of an odd number of H-shaped waves of equal height, the plate being bound by two opposite lateral walls of equal height, the walls being perpendicular to the waves and having a set of apertures into the spaces between the H-shaped waves.
The cell as claimed in 1, where the spaces within the H-shaped waves represent the anode channels and the spaces between the II-shaped waves represents the cathode channels of the fuel cell.
The cell as claimed in 1, having a set of apertures at the tops of the II-shape waves close to one of the lateral walls for fuel input into the anode channel.
The cell as claimed in 2, the upper surface of which is covered by a layer of porous cathode material with the exception of a strip along the lower perimeter and areas around the top apertures;
- and the lower surface of which is covered by a layer of porous anode material with the exception of a strip along the lower perimeter.
The stack consisting at least of two cells as claimed in 4, interconnect plates between the cells, small sealing gaskets between the tops of the cells and the interconnect plates, large sealing gaskets between the bottom of the cells and the interconnect plates, and gas-intake and gas-outlet manifolds connected to the terminal cells.
The interconnect plate as claimed in 5, having the same length and width as the cell and having a set of apertures that are congruous to the apertures in the tops of the II-shaped waves of the cell.
The small sealing gaskets as claimed in 5, having a rectangular shape, that are placed around the apertures in the tops of the II-shaped waves of the cells and serve as a gas-tight seal of the cells and the upper interconnect plates or the top cell of the stack and the intake manifold.
The large sealing gaskets as claimed in 5, having a rectangular shape, that are placed onto the strip without anode along the lower perimeter of the cells and serve as a gas-tight seal of the cells and the lower interconnect plates or the bottom cell in the stack and outlet manifold.
The stack as claimed in 5, each lower cell of which is rotated by 180° along its vertical axis relative to the upper cell.
