Abstract
A method of encrypting data is provided that uses a medium key retrieved from a storage medium. The medium key is combined with another key to generate a combination key. Content is encrypted according to the combination key and written to the storage medium.

A method of writing data to a writeable area of a storage medium, the storage medium including a first key, comprising:
- retrieving the first key from the storage medium;
- generating a combination key based upon the retrieved first key and a second key;
- encrypting the data according to the combination key;
- and
- writing the encrypted data to the writeable area of the storage medium.
