Universal catheter securement device

An anchoring system for securing a catheter to the body of a patient, comprising:

• fitting on a medical line, the fitting having a body and a pair of outwardly extending wings;
• a base member having two pairs of wall segments, the wall segments being disposed relative to the base member so as to generally define a land area therebetween for receiving the body of the fitting, the wall segments from each pair of wall segments being spaced apart to receive at least a portion of a wing of the catheter therebetween and to inhibit at least longitudinal movement of the secured wing relative to the base member;
• a cover being attachable to the base member, the cover being movable to an engaged position in which at least a portion of each wall segment is disposed between the cover and the base member;
• and
• interengaging structure which releasably secures together the base member and the cover in the engaged position.

A securement system for a catheter, the securement system comprising:

• a fitting on a medical line, the fitting having a rigid body and a pair of outwardly extending wings;
• a retainer having at least two upstanding members that are spaced apart to receive the rigid component therebetween and that cooperate so as to inhibit longitudinal movement of the medical article relative to the retainer;
• a cover being movable between a first position and a second position, the cover being engaged with the retainer and covering at least part of the rigid body when in the second position;
• and
• interengaging structure which releasably secures together the retainer and the cover in the second position.
