Abstract
The present invention provides a production intermediate for compound (A-1) and a method for producing the intermediate at high yield and high optical yield. The present invention provides a method for producing compound (3) characterized in that compound (1) is reacted with compound (2) in the presence of a base. (wherein R represents a C1 to C6 alkyl group or a C7 to C8 aralkyl group).

A method for producing an optically active benzaldehyde derivative represented by formula (3):

- (wherein R represents a C1 to C6 alkyl group or a C7 to C8 aralkyl group), characterized in that the method comprises reacting 3-hydroxybenzaldehyde represented by formula (1):

- with an optically active 2-trifluoromethanesulfonyloxybutyric acid ester represented by formula (2):
- [F2]
- (wherein R has the same meaning as defined above) in the presence of a base.
