Abstract
Provided herein are compounds of the formula (I): as well as pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, wherein the substituents are as those disclosed in the specification. These compounds, and the pharmaceutical compositions containing them, are useful for the treatment of diseases such as, for example, type II diabetes mellitus and metabolic syndrome.

A compound of formula (I):
- wherein:
- R1 is H or lower alkyl;
- R2 is lower alkyl, —(CH2)n-cycloalkyl, —(CH2)n-heterocycloalkyl, —(CH2)n-aryl, —(CH2)n-heteroaryl, —(CH2)nOH, —(CH2)nCH(CH3)OH or —(CH2)nOCH3;
- or
- R1 and R2, together with the N atom to which they are attached, form a 5- to 7-membered monocyclic ring, which contains the N atom to which R1 and R2 are attached, and optionally another hetero atom which is selected from O and S, unsubstituted or mono- or bi-substituted with hydroxy, lower alkyl or —(CH2)nOH;
- R3 is one or more substituents selected from H, halogen, lower alkyl and lower alkoxy;
- R4 is H, OH, NHC(═O)CH3 or NHS(═O)(═O)CH3;
- n is 1, 2, 3 or 4;
- and pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
