Abstract
By disclosing part of metastasis mechanisms in cancer cells, the metastatic potential of cancer cells will be determinable. Anti-galectin-9 Ab against galectin-9 is contained as an effective component with or without others, thereby enabling the evaluation or detection of galectin-9 expression levels in cancer cells wherein the metastatic potential of the cancer cells can be assessed or detected.

A method for predicting and/or detecting the ability of a cancer to metastasize, comprising:
- contacting a test sample with a cancer metastatic prediction and/or detection agent comprising an effective amount of an anti-galectin-9 antibody, to give an immunological assay result;
- and
- using the immunological assay result as an indicator for the ability of the cancer to metastasize.
A method for predicting and/or detecting metastasis of a cancer comprising using a cancer metastatic prediction and/or detection agent comprising an effective amount of an anti-galectin-9 antibody in an immunological method to quantitatively assay for galectin-9 in a test sample, wherein ability of the cancer to metastasive is detected or assessed using the result of this quantitative assay.
A method for predicting and/or detecting metastatic potential of a cancer comprising:
- contacting a cancer metastatic prediction and/or detection agent comprising an effective amount of an anti-galectin-9 antibody with a test sample from a patient, and
- quantitatively measuring the amount of galectin-9 in the test sample based on binding of galectin-9 to the anti-galectin-9 antibody to detect or assess the metastatic potential of the cancer.
