The invention pertains to methods for treating medical disorders characterized by elevated levels or abnormal expression of IL-1 by administering an IL-1 antagonist, such as soluble type II IL-1 receptor.

A method of treating a patient afflicted with a medical disorder selected from the group consisting of maturity onset diabetes, non-insulin dependent, diabetes, obesity-mediated diabetes and obesity-mediated insulin resistance, comprising administering to said patient a therapeutically effective amount of an IL-1 inhibitor.
