Abstract
The present invention provides a novel transmembrane protein, which is a nuclear factor of activated T cells (‘NFAT’) receptor, and related compositions and methods.

A method for preventing or treating a disease mediated by an NFAT protein in a mammal, the method comprising administering to the mammal an amount of an NFAT activating receptor agonist or antagonist effective for said preventing or treating.
A method for detecting whether an NFAT activating receptor is present in specific cells, tissues, or body fluids, the method comprising:
- (a) contacting a sample of cells, tissue, or body fluid with an antibody that binds to the NFAT activating receptor;
- and
- (b) determining whether the antibody binds to NFAT activating receptor in the sample;
- wherein the NFAT activating receptor is selected from the group consisting of:
- (a) a polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 2;
- (b) a polypeptide comprising an amino acid sequence having at least 95% sequence identity to SEQ ID NO:
- 2;
- and
- (c) a soluble polypeptide comprising or consisting of amino acids 43 to 150 of SEQ ID NO:
- 2;
- and
- wherein said binding indicates that the NFAT activating receptor is present in said specific cells, tissues, or body fluids.
A purified polypeptide selected from the group consisting of:
- a. a polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 2;
- b. a polypeptide comprising an amino acid sequence having at least 95% sequence identity to SEQ ID NO:
- 2;
- c. a soluble polypeptide comprising or consisting of amino acids 43 to 150 of SEQ ID NO:
- 2;
- and
- d. a polypeptide encoded by a polynucleotide comprising the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 1.
An isolated polynucleotide comprising a nucleotide sequence selected from the group consisting of:
- a. SEQ ID NO:
- 1;
- b. a nucleotide sequence having at least 85% sequence identity to SEQ ID NO:
- 1;
- and
- c. a nucleotide sequence that encodes a polypeptide selected from the group consisting of:
- i. a polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 2;
- and
- ii. a soluble polypeptide comprising or consisting of amino acids 43-150 of SEQ ID NO:
- 2.
