Abstract
One embodiment of the present invention relates to a network element that is configured to be associated with a network having a number of nodes. A node is configured to receive a beacon signal from a master node and at least one relayed beacon signal from at least one proxy node, where the at least one proxy node transmits the at least one relayed beacon signal based at least in part on the beacon signal. The node is further configured to select one of the beacon and relayed beacon signals and analyze the selected signal to determine a timeslot reserved for node admission requests. Other methods and devices are also disclosed.

A network element configured to be associated with a network having a number of nodes, comprising:
- a node configured to receive a beacon signal from a master node and at least one relayed beacon signal from at least one proxy node, where the at least one proxy node transmits the at least one relayed beacon signal during a relayed beacon times-lot uniquely assigned to the at least one proxy node;
- the node further configured to select one of the beacon and relayed beacon signals and analyze the selected signal to determine a timeslot reserved for node admission requests.
A method for communicating over a network and to be carried out on a node, comprising:
- determining whether a received signal is a beacon signal transmitted by a master node or a relayed beacon signal transmitted by a proxy node, where the relayed beacon signal would have been transmitted during a relayed beacon timeslot that is uniquely assigned to the proxy node;
- analyzing the received signal to determine an admission request timeslot reserved for admission requests.
