Abstract
A system and method that provides means for performing peer to peer printing over a network. The system and method allow a user at a client device to print to a virtual printer which sends the printed document to a print device for storage allowing the user to walk up to any print device connected to the network, retrieve the document, and collect a hard copy print of the document.
Claims19
A method for peer-to-peer printing over a network, comprising:
- assigning a user identification to a first print device for storing print data from a user associated
- with the user identification;
- generating, at the first print device, a list of the print data stored associated with the user identification;
- requesting the list of the print data stored in the first print device, from a second print device, based on the user identification;
- transmitting the list of the print data from the first print device to the second print device in response to the request;
- and
- retrieving the print data from the first print device at the second print device based upon a selection from the list of the print data for printing locally.
4 more elements
An apparatus for peer-to-peer printing over a network, comprising:
- a storage unit for storing print data received from a user, wherein a user identification is assigned to the storage unit to store the print data of the user associated with the user identification;
- a receiving unit for receiving requests for print data stored by the storing unit based upon the user identification;
- and
- a sending unit for sending the print data stored by the storing unit based on the received requests.
1 more element
A system for peer-to-peer printing over a network, comprising:
- a first print device configured to receive and store print data from a first user associated with a first user identification;
- a second print device configured to receive and store print data from a second user associated with a second user identification;
- a third print device, communicatively coupled to the first print device and the second print device for local printing, the third print device including:
- a user interface unit configured to identify a user based upon a user identification entered by the user at the user interface unit;
- a sending unit configured to transmit a request for print data associated with the user identified by the user interface unit to either the first print device or the second print device;
- a receiving unit configured to receive the print data requested by the sending unit;
- and
- a print unit configured to print the print data.
