Abstract
A filter device having a vent device for inhibiting formation of a vacuum in the filter device. The filter device includes a drum for receiving the liquid wherein the drum includes a drum headspace. The filter device also includes filter sets for filtering the liquid. The drum is rotated to enable cleaning of filter media. The filter device also includes a frame having spaced apart supports for supporting each of the filter sets. A fluid passageway extends between the supports, wherein the fluid passageway provides fluid communication between the tank headspace and a filter set to vent a filter set.
Claims20
A filter device for filtering a liquid, the device comprising:
- a drum for receiving said liquid;
- at least one filter set for filtering said liquid;
- a frame having spaced supports for supporting said filter, wherein said frame is coupled to said drum;
- and
- a fluid passageway which extends between said supports, wherein said fluid passageway provides fluid communication to enable venting of said device.
A filter device for filtering a liquid, the device comprising:
- a drum for receiving said liquid, said drum having a drum headspace;
- a first filter set having a first pair of filter panels which are spaced apart to form a cavity for receiving said liquid wherein said filter panels are adapted for filtering said liquid;
- a frame having spaced apart supports for supporting said filter panels, wherein said frame is coupled to said drum;
- and
- a fluid passageway which extends between said supports, wherein said fluid passageway provides fluid communication between said tank headspace and a second filter set having a second pair of filter panels to enable venting of said second filter set.
A filter device for filtering a liquid, the device comprising:
- a drum for receiving said liquid, said drum having a drum headspace;
- a plurality of filter sets for filtering said liquid, said filter sets forming a plurality of discs;
- selectively rotating said drum to thus rotate said discs to enable filtering of said liquid;
- a frame having spaced apart supports for supporting each of said filter sets, wherein said frame is coupled to said drum;
- and
- a fluid passageway which extends between said supports, wherein said fluid passageway provides fluid communication between said tank headspace and a filter set to enable venting of a filter set;
- and
- selectively backwashing said filter panels.
A method for filtering a liquid, the method comprising the steps of:
- receiving said liquid in a drum, wherein said drum includes a drum headspace;
- rotating filter sets to filter said liquid;
- providing a support structure for holding said filter sets, wherein said support structure and said filter sets form a vacuum during said rotation;
- providing fluid communication between said drum headspace and said filter sets to relieve said vacuum.
The method according to claim 19, wherein fluid communication is provided by a fluid passageway.
