Abstract
Disclosed herein is an electrode for capacitive deionization device including an active material, a waterborne polyurethane, and a conducting agent. Disclosed herein too is a method of manufacturing the electrode and a capacitive deionization device employing the electrode.

An electrode for capacitive deionization comprising:
- an active material;
- a waterborne polyurethane;
- and
- a conducting agent.

A method of manufacturing an electrode for capacitive deionization, the method comprising:
- preparing a polyurethane solution by adding an amphiphilic solvent to a waterborne polyurethane dispersion;
- the waterborne polyurethane dispersion being prepared by dispersing a waterborne polyurethane in water;
- preparing a composition for an electrode active material by mixing an active material, a conducting agent, the polyurethane solution, and the amphiphilic solvent;
- and
- coating the composition for an electrode active material on a support and drying the composition to form an electrode.
