Abstract
Embodiments described herein may include example embodiments of a method, article and/or apparatus for buffering coded data which may be used for communicating between two or more components connected to an interconnection medium (e.g., a bus) within a single computer or digital data processing system, and/or for communication between computing platforms via a network or other interconnection medium.
Claims28
A method of buffering data symbols from a sequence of data symbols, the data symbols each having a radix, comprising:
- determining a number of discrete values resulting from coding a data symbol of the sequence into a buffer based at least in part on a radix of the data symbol;
- comparing the number of discrete values with a buffer capacity of the buffer;
- scaling the buffer based at least in part on the radix of the data symbol if the number of discrete values does not exceed the buffer capacity of the buffer;
- coding the data symbol into the scaled buffer if the number of discrete values does not exceed the buffer capacity of the buffer;
- and
- repeating said determining, said comparing, said scaling, and said coding with further data symbols from the sequence until the number of discrete values resulting from coding a data symbol from the sequence exceeds the buffer capacity of the buffer.

An article comprising:
- a storage medium having stored thereon instructions that, if executed, result in performance of a method of buffering data symbols from a sequence, the method comprising:
- determining a number of discrete values resulting from coding a data symbol of the sequence into a buffer based at least in part on a radix of the data symbol;
- comparing the number of discrete values with a buffer capacity of the buffer;
- scaling the buffer based at least in part on the radix of the data symbol if the number of discrete values does not exceed the buffer capacity of the buffer;
- coding the data symbol into the scaled buffer if the number of discrete values does not exceed the buffer capacity of the buffer;
- and
- repeating said determining, said comparing, said scaling, and said coding with further data symbols from the sequence until the number of discrete values resulting from coding a data symbol from the sequence exceeds the buffer capacity of the buffer.

An apparatus, comprising:
- means for determining a number of discrete values resulting from coding a data symbol of the sequence into a buffer based at least in part on a radix of the data symbol;
- means for comparing the number of discrete values with a buffer capacity of the buffer;
- means for scaling the buffer based at least in part on the radix of the data symbol if the number of discrete values does not exceed the buffer capacity of the buffer;
- means for coding the data symbol into the scaled buffer if the number of discrete values does not exceed the buffer capacity of the buffer;
- and
- means for repeating said determining, said comparing, said scaling, and said coding with further data symbols from the sequence until the number of discrete values resulting from coding a data symbol from the sequence exceeds the buffer capacity of the buffer.
