Abstract
An improved vehicle throttle control mechanism in which a member captures the movement of an operators thumb beneath the underside of the said vehicle's handlebar. The operator is able to actuate the throttle without removing his thumb or the palm of his hand from contact with the handle bar. Other elements of the control system reduce operator fatigue and improve vehicle control.
Claims4
On a vehicle incorporating handlebars which are used to steer the vehicle a moving member is affixed near the vehicle's handlebar in such a way that the motion of the operators thumb predominantly inline with the handlebar and beneath the handlebar is captured and used to control said vehicle's throttle.
Where engine throttling of an internal combustion engine is accomplished by a sliding throttling valve arrangement which limits the flow of air or fuel to said engine when the slide is moved, an additional mass or masses are moved in directions opposing the movement of this sliding throttling valve.
On a vehicle equipped with an engine whose throttle control comes from a throttle control device situated near the vehicle's handlebar assembly, an electronic sensor is utilized to capture the position of a sliding member which the operator moves so that an actuator can based on all relevant data regulate the output of the engine.
On a vehicle on which engine throttling is accomplished by moving a member affixed near the vehicle's handlebar in such a way that the motion of the operators thumb is predominantly inline with the handlebar and beneath the handlebar, a slippery surface is incorporated into the underside of the handlebar grip on the surfaces of the grip which make contact with the rider's thumb.
