Abstract
A gain controller for controlling the gain of at least one amplifier in a receiver, the gain controller being arranged to, when the receiver is receiving a signal: for a first period of time, repeatedly determine an indication of the strength of the received signal and adjust the gain of the at least one amplifier in dependence on each indication of signal strength and following the expiry of the first period of time: determine a subsequent indication of the strength of the received signal and make a single adjustment of the gain of the at least one amplifier in dependence on the subsequent indication of signal strength.

A gain controller for controlling the gain of at least one amplifier in a receiver, the gain controller being arranged to, when the receiver is receiving a signal:
- for a first period of time, repeatedly determine an indication of the strength of the received signal and adjust the gain of the at least one amplifier in dependence on each indication of signal strength;
- and
- following the expiry of the first period of time:
- determine a subsequent indication of the strength of the received signal and make a single adjustment of the gain of the at least one amplifier in dependence on the subsequent indication of signal strength.
A method for controlling at least one amplifier in a receiver, the method comprising, when the receiver is receiving a signal:
- for a first period of time, repeatedly determining an indication of the strength of the received signal and adjusting the gain of the at least one amplifier in dependence on each indication of signal strength;
- and
- following the expiry of the first period of time:
- determining a subsequent indication of the strength of the received signal and making a single adjustment of the gain of the at least one amplifier in dependence on the subsequent indication of signal strength.
