Abstract
A secreted mature polypeptide derived from an S2A or S1E protease which after maturation has protease activity, which polypeptide when expressed and before maturation comprises a heterologous pro-region.

A method of producing a S2A and/or S1E protease, comprising:
- (a) cultivating a recombinant host cell or a transgenic plant or animal comprising a polynucleotide encoding a fusion polypeptide of the S2A and/or S1E protease, and a heterologous pro-region, to produce a supernatant comprising the S2A and/or S1E protease;
- and optionally
- (b) recovering the S2A and/or S1E protease.
