Abstract
A rainbow wheel that colors light that is passed therethrough. The wheel can be formed using a photolithographic process. Another supermagenta wheel can be used to increase the number of colors that can be obtained.
Claims40
A coloring device for an optical system, comprising:
- a coloring surface, divided into a plurality of primary sections, including a first section formed with a first subtractive primary color section and a second subtractive primary color section, and including at least one mixing section in between said first subtractive primary color section and said second primary subtractive color section, said mixing section corresponding to a color that corresponds to a subtractive combination of said first and second primary color sections.
A color changing system, comprising:
- a first color changing structure forming a first surface including a plurality of areas defined thereon, including first, second and third primary color areas, each primary color area defining a specified area on the color changing structure, and said first color changing structure further including second, third and fourth areas of subtractive colors, where said subtractive areas are formed physically between said primary color areas.
A lighting system, comprising:
- a light producing structure, producing light along an optical axis;
- a first color changing structure, located along said axis, and movable so that different portions of said first color changing structure intersect with said optical axis;
- said first color changing structure including a plurality of areas defined thereon, including first, second and third primary color areas, each primary color area defining a specified area on the color changing structure, and said first color changing structure further including second, third and fourth areas of subtractive colors, where said subtractive areas are formed by an overlap between said primary areas, and are physically between said primary color areas.
A method, comprising:
- first coloring light using a first wheel that includes each of three primary colors, and a number of subtractive colors in addition to the primary colors;
- and
- second coloring light that has been colored by said first wheel, using a second wheel that includes at least one color that is more deeply saturated than any corresponding color on said first wheel.
A method, comprising:
- forming a first area of approximately one third of a color changing structure the wheel and applying a first primary color to said first area and photolithographically etching color gradients within said first area,
- forming a second area of approximately a third of an area of said color changing structure with a second primary color, and
- forming a third area with a third primary color.
