Abstract
A measuring member having a conical section with a known vertex angle is inserted into a guide hole through a trumpet-shaped inner surface (wire guiding surface) formed by rotating a convex about the axis of the guide hole. Then, the surface of the conical section of the measuring member stops at the point of tangential contact with the inner surface. The point at which the wire electrode is supported, measured from the reference wire supporting point, can be determined from the height of a specific point on the measuring member in the stopped state and the distance from this specific point to the vertex of the conical section of the measuring member.
Claims7
A method of determining a point at which the wire electrode is supported when a wire-cut electrical discharge machine is used for taper machining, the wire-cut electrical discharge machine performing electric discharge machining using the wire electrode stretched between upper and lower wire guides, each wire guide having a die guide with a guide hole through which the wire electrode is threaded, the guide hole having a trumpet-shaped inner surface formed by rotating a convex about the axis of the guide hole, the method comprising the steps of:
- inserting a measuring member having a known length and a tapered-pin section in the form of a cone or pyramid with a known vertex angle into the guide hole of the die guide such that the surface or ridges of the tapered-pin section are guided along a wire guiding surface provided by the inner surface of the die guide;
- measuring the position of the measuring member when the surface or ridges of the tapered-pin section touch the wire guiding surface of the die guide and the measuring member stops;
- and
- determining the point at which the wire electrode slanted at an angle half the angle of the vertex of the tapered-pin section of the measuring member is supported on the basis of the measured position of the measuring member.
A measuring member for determining the point at which the wire electrode is supported when a wire-cut electrical discharge machine is used for taper machining, the wire-cut electrical discharge machine performing electric discharge machining using the wire electrode stretched between upper and lower wire guides each having a die guide with a guide hole through which the wire electrode is threaded, the guide hole having a trumpet-shaped inner surface formed by rotating a convex about the axis of the guide hole, wherein the measuring member has a known length and a tapered-pin section in the form of a cone or pyramid with a known vertex angle.
A method of determining the point at which the wire electrode is supported when a wire-cut electrical discharge machine is used for taper machining, the wire-cut electrical discharge machine performing electric discharge machining using the wire electrode stretched between upper and lower wire guides each having a die guide with a guide hole through which the wire electrode is threaded, the method comprising the steps of:
- (1) inserting a measuring member, formed from a rod-shaped section and a conical section or a part of the conical section which has a first vertex angle and is attached to one end of the rod-shaped section, into the guide hole of the die guide in a manner such that the axis of the rod-shaped section of the measuring member coincides with the axis of the guide hole;
- (2) detecting the position of the vertex of the conical section of the measuring member by measuring the position of the measuring member when the measuring member inserted into the guide hole of the die guide can no longer advance and stops;
- (3) determining, from the position and angle of the detected vertex of the conical section, the angle of the straight section of the wire electrode stretched between the upper and lower guides and the points at which the straight section of the wire electrode is supported in the upper and lower wire guides;
- (4) performing the steps (1) to (3) in sequence using measuring members having conical sections with first, second, third, and other known vertex angles, respectively;
- and
- (5) plotting relationships between the points at which the straight section of the wire electrode stretched between the upper and lower wire guides is supported and the slant angles of the straight section of the wire electrode, on the basis of a plurality of measurement data obtained in step (4).
