Method and system for handling errors

A system for parsing section data associated with a transport packet of a packetized elementary stream, the system comprising:

• a data bus having a predetermined number of nodes for transmitting a plurality of data words;
• a section parser including:
• a first storage location having an output, the first storage location to store a first value representing a valid data word having a first section field;
• a second storage location for storing a second value representing a comparable section field;
• and
• a first section field filter for analyzing the first value with respect to the second value.

A method comprising:

• identifying a transport packet as being a section packet;
• comparing the value of a first field in the section packet to a value of a first field register to determine a first outcome;
• and
• determining whether to enable the section packet to be received by a host system or to discard the section packet, based upon the first outcome.
