Abstract
Surface modifiable polyolefins are disclosed that allow for the covalent attachment of further chemical entities. The surface modification does not leach from the polyolefin. Example embodiments include the covalent bonding of antimicrobial chemical entities to the modified surfaces to provide antimicrobial polyolefin films and fibres for use in packaging and non-wovens.
Claims15
A surface modified polyolefin with a non-leaching, reactive chemical functionality;
- wherein the surface modified polyolefin comprises:
- i) from about 5% to about 95% of a polyolefin;
- and
- ii) from about 5% to about 95% of an amphiphilic polymer comprising reactive chemical functionality,
- wherein at least a portion of the reactive chemical functionality is available for chemical reaction at the polyolefin surface.
