Abstract
Systems and methods are provided for performing data backup of a communication device. Data backup can occur automatically or manually. A data backup status indicator is displayed on the communication device indicating the current status of the data backup. The user can select the data backup status indicator to obtain additional information about the status of the data backup service.
Claims25
A method for performing data backup between a mobile communication device and a remote storage device and notifying a user of a status of the data backup, the method comprising:
- identifying a connection between a mobile communication device and a remote storage device;
- performing data backup of data located on the mobile communication device with data located on the remote storage device;
- and
- automatically displaying a data backup status indicator on a display of the mobile communication device.
In a mobile communication device, a system for performing data backup between data located on the mobile communication device with data located on a remote storage device and notifying a user of a status of the data backup on a display of the mobile communication device, the system comprising:
- a data backup client comprising:
- a data backup module configured to identify a connection between the mobile communication device and a remote storage device and initiate data backup of data located on the mobile communication device with data located on the remote storage device;
- and
- a notification module configured to select a means for displaying a data backup status indicator on a display of the mobile communication device and to select a content of the data backup status indicator;
- a data store containing the data located on the mobile communication device to be backed up with data located on the remote storage device, the data store communicating with the data backup module;
- and
- a graphical user interface communicating with the notification module, the graphical user interface configured to cause the data backup status indicator to be displayed on the display of the mobile communication device.
In a mobile communication device, a method for notifying a user of a status of a data backup process, the method comprising:
- identifying a current status of a data backup process on a mobile communication device, the current status being selected from at least one of:
- data backup not initiated;
- data backup initiated;
- data backup in progress;
- data backup complete;
- or
- data backup incomplete;
- and
- automatically displaying a first data backup status indicator on a display of the mobile communication device, the first data backup status indicator identifying the current status of the data backup process.
