Volumetric Sealing System

A sealing system, comprising:

• a first transfer tube having an interior region and a pair of outlets in communication with the interior region, the first transfer tube including an interior surface surrounding the interior region;
• a second transfer tube telescopically disposed within the interior region of the first transfer tube such that a first portion of the second transfer tube is within the interior region of the first transfer tube and a second portion of the second transfer tube is external to the interior region of the first transfer tube and wherein the first and second transfer tubes are axially and radially movable with respect to each other, the second transfer tube having an exterior surface that contacts the interior surface of the first transfer tube, the second transfer tube having an interior region for the flow of matter therethrough, the first portion of the second transfer tube having an outlet in communication with the interior region of the second transfer tube to allow matter to flow from the interior region of the second transfer tube to the interior region of the first transfer tube, the second transfer tube defining a circumferentially extending shoulder that is contiguous with the exterior surface of the second transfer tube and proximate to the outlet of the second transfer tube;
• an annular seal member positioned on the shoulder, the seal being sized so as to contact the interior surface of the first transfer tube and create a seal between the interior surface of the first transfer tube and the exterior surface of the second transfer tube;
• and
• a device attached to the exterior surface of the second transfer tube proximate to the shoulder to retain the annular seal member in place and protect the annular seal member from heat.

A sealing system comprising:

• a first transfer tube having an exterior surface, an interior region, an interior surface surrounding the interior region, a first end portion that defines an outlet that is in communication with the interior region;
• a second transfer tube disposed within the interior region of the first transfer tube wherein a first portion of the second transfer tube is within the interior region of the first transfer and a second portion of the second transfer tube is external to the interior region of the first transfer tube, the second transfer tube having an interior region, an outlet in communication with the interior region of the second transfer tube to matter to flow through the interior region of the second transfer tube, an interior surface surrounding the interior region of the second transfer tube and an exterior surface that contacts the interior surface of said first transfer tube;
• said first end portion of the first transfer tube defining a stepped portion that provides a circumferentially extending space between the first end portion of the first transfer tube and the exterior surface of the second transfer tube;
• an annular seal positioned in the circumferentially extending space;
• and
• a retainer ring connected to the stepped portion to enclose the circumferentially extending space and retain the annular seal within the circumferentially extending space.

A sealing system comprising:

• a first transfer tube having an interior region, an interior surface surrounding the interior region, a first end portion, and an outlet at the first end portion which is in communication with the interior region;
• a second transfer tube disposed within the interior region of the first transfer tube wherein a first portion of the second transfer tube is within the interior region of the first transfer and a second portion of the second transfer tube is external to the interior region of the first transfer tube, the second transfer tube having an interior region, an outlet in communication with the interior region of the second transfer tube to allow matter to flow through the interior region of the second transfer tube, an interior surface surrounding the interior region of the second transfer tube and an exterior surface that contacts the interior surface of said first transfer tube;
• said first transfer tube having a cut-out or notched portion contiguous with the interior surface thereof and proximate to the first end portion of the first transfer tube, the cut-out or notched portion facing the exterior side of the second transfer tube and providing a circumferentially extending space;
• an annular seal positioned in the circumferentially extending space;
• and
• a retainer ring connected to the first transfer tube proximate to the first end portion thereof to enclose the circumferentially extending space and retain the annular seal within the circumferentially extending space.
