A method comprising:
- creating a multi-field index for a table in a database including a first field and a second field, the first field being divided into at least a first subfield and a second subfield, wherein the first subfield includes a major division of the first field and the second subfield represents part or all of the remainder of the field;
- and
- arranging the fields in the multi-field index, such that the first and second subfields are separated by the second field.
