System and Method for Video Recording, Management and Access

A video and data recording, management and access system comprising:

• a customer network, the customer network comprising
• a digital video recorder (DVR) appliance,
• a video camera coupled to the DVR appliance,
• a data collection device coupled to the DVR appliance, and
• a first broadband internet access device coupled to the DVR appliance and coupled to a web application;
• a data center comprising an application server;
• a server-based application hosted on the application server;
• the data center coupled to a presence server, an event server, a media server, a network server, and a router, the router coupled to a communications network;
• a user network comprising a computing system, and a second broadband internet access device coupled to the computing system and to a second internet access device;
• whereby the user network is configurable to interact with the data center and with the customer network by operation of the server-based application.

A method for recording, monitoring and accessing video and data, the method comprising:

• invoking a server-based application from a remote workstation;
• requesting data analysis which initiates video lookups;
• identifying video segments in response to the request, the identified video segments being stored on DVRs located at one or more locations;
• transmitting the identified video segments from the DVR to the server-based application;
• and
• displaying the identified video segments embedded within the server-based application.
