## Abstract

An entertainment system for a vehicle, including a media player and a control panel having an option that allows a user to select either a first communication mode or a second communication mode, wherein the first communication mode sets the entertainment system to respond to a transmitted first set of codes and the second communication mode sets the entertainment system to respond to a transmitted second set of codes.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An entertainment system for a vehicle, comprising:
a media player; and
a control panel having an option that allows a user to select a first communication mode or a second communication mode,
wherein the first communication mode sets the entertainment system to respond to a transmitted first set of codes and the second communication mode sets the entertainment system to respond to a transmitted second set of codes.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The entertainment system as recited in claim 1, wherein the first set of codes is transmitted by a remote control set to a first transmission mode and the second set of codes is transmitted by the remote control set to a second transmission mode.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The entertainment system as recited in claim 1, wherein the media player is one of an MPEG player, a card reader, a DVD player, a CD-ROM player, a video game player, a video cassette player, or a digital video recorder.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The entertainment system as recited in claim 1, wherein the entertainment system receives and plays at least one of a digital video disc, a compact disc, a video compact disc, a flash card, a secure digital card, a smart media card or a memory stick card.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The entertainment system as recited in claim 1, wherein the first communication mode sets the entertainment system to output an audio signal from the media player to a first audio channel and the second communication mode sets the entertainment system to output the audio signal from the media player to a second audio channel.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The entertainment system as recited in claim 5, wherein:
the output of the audio signal is a wireless transmission;
a first wireless sound system receives the audio signal from the first channel; and
a second wireless sound system receives the audio signal from the second audio channel.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The entertainment system as recited in claim 1, further comprising:
a display unit having an adjustable brightness level which is set by remotely selecting a day brightness mode or a night brightness mode.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The entertainment system as recited in claim 7, wherein the brightness level of the display unit is set to a maximum level for the display unit when the day brightness mode is selected.

### Claim 9 (depends on 7)

The entertainment system as recited in claim 7, wherein the brightness level of the display unit is set to a pre-determined level stored in the overhead entertainment system when the night brightness mode is selected.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The entertainment system as recited in claim 9, wherein the pre-determined level is set by a user through the control panel.

### Claim 11 (depends on 7)

The entertainment system, as recited in claim 7, wherein, the brightness level of the display unit is set to a pre-determined level stored in the entertainment unit when the day brightness mode is selected.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The entertainment system as recited in claim 11, wherein the pre-determined level is set by a user through the control panel.

### Claim 13

An entertainment system for a vehicle, comprising:
a media player; and
a control panel having an option that allows a user to select a first communication mode or a second communication mode,
wherein the first communication mode sets the entertainment system to output audio signals from the media player across a first channel and to receive a first set of commands from a remote control and the second communication mode sets the entertainment system to output the audio signals across a second channel and to receive a second set of commands from the remote control.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The entertainment system as recited in claim 13, wherein the output of the audio signals across the first channel comprises wireless transmission of the audio signals to a first sound system and the output of the audio signals across the second channel comprises wireless transmission of the audio signals to a second sound system.

### Claim 15 (depends on 14)

The entertainment system as recited in claim 14, wherein the first and second sound systems include wireless headphones.

### Claim 16 (depends on 13)

The entertainment system, as recited in claim 13, wherein when the entertainment system is set to the first communication mode, the entertainment system ignores transmissions which include the second set of commands, and when the entertainment system is set to the second communication mode, ignores transmissions which include the first set of commands.

### Claim 17 (depends on 13)

The entertainment system as recited in claim 13, further comprising a display unit having a brightness which can be remotely controlled through, the first or second set of commands.

### Claim 18 (depends on 17)

The entertainment system as recited in claim 17, wherein each, of the first and second commands include a command which automatically sets the brightness of the display unit to a predetermined brightness level.

### Claim 19 (depends on 13)

The entertainment system as recited in claim 13, wherein the media player is one of an MPEG player, a card reader, a DVD player, a CD-ROM player, a video game player, a video cassette player, or a digital video recorder.

### Claim 20 (depends on 13)
