## Abstract

A dust collection attachment is disclosed that is adapted to be coupled to a base. A barrier coupled to the pan includes a plurality of bristles that create an opening to the pan between the base and the barrier in order to prevent debris generated by a tool from passing through the barrier, yet allowing passage of the tool through the barrier.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A dust collection attachment adapted to be coupled to a base to guide debris, comprising:
a pan adapted to be coupled to the base; and
a barrier coupled to the pan that includes a plurality of bristles that create an opening to the pan between the base and the barrier to prevent debris generated by a tool from passing through the barrier.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The dust collection attachment of claim 1 wherein the barrier is adjustable to a plurality of positions with respect to the pan.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The dust collection attachment of claim 1 wherein the plurality of bristles include a main portion spaced apart from the base to create the opening to the pan and two side portions angled toward the base.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The dust collection attachment of claim 1 and further comprising an outlet coupled to the pan, the outlet being adapted to be coupled to a tube.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The dust collection attachment of claim 4 wherein the pan further includes a funnel, a first aperture and a second aperture, the first and second apertures adapted to receive a fastener for coupling the pan to the base, wherein the first aperture and the second aperture are positioned on opposite sides of the funnel and wherein the funnel directs debris from the opening to the outlet.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The dust collection attachment of claim 1 and further comprising a cover adjustable with respect to the barrier to at least partially cover the opening.

### Claim 7

A combination, comprising:
a base having a jig for use with a cutting tool;
a dust collection attachment having a pan mounted to the base and a barrier coupled to the pan having a plurality of bristles including a portion spaced apart from the base to guide debris generated by the cutting tool to the pan.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The combination of claim 7 wherein the plurality of bristles allow the cutting tool to pass therethrough and prevents debris generated by the cutting tool from passing therethrough.

### Claim 9 (depends on 7)

The combination of claim 7 wherein the base includes a clamping mechanism adapted to hold the dust collection attachment relative to the base.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The combination of claim 9 wherein the clamping mechanism includes first and second cams positioned on opposite sides of a lever and wherein the dust collection attachment includes first and second support posts providing load paths between the first and second cams and the base.

### Claim 11 (depends on 9)

The combination of claim 9 wherein the clamping mechanism is further adapted to hold a first work piece relative to the base and wherein the base includes a second clamping mechanism adapted to hold a second work piece orthogonal to the first work piece.

### Claim 12 (depends on 7)

The combination of claim 7 wherein the pan further includes a first aperture and a second aperture adapted to receive a first fastener and second fastener, respectively, and a funnel wherein the first aperture and the second aperture are positioned on opposite sides of the funnel.

### Claim 13 (depends on 7)

The combination of claim 7 and further comprising a vacuum and a tube connecting the vacuum and the dust collection attachment.

### Claim 14

A method of guiding debris from a workpiece generated by a cutting tool, comprising:
providing a barrier having an opening spaced apart from a base;
allowing the cutting tool to pass through the barrier while preventing debris from passing through the barrier.

### Claim 15 (depends on 14)

The method of claim 14 wherein the barrier includes a plurality of bristles.

### Claim 16 (depends on 14)

The method of claim 14 and further comprising:
providing a pan coupled to the barrier to guide debris from the opening to an outlet.

### Claim 17 (depends on 16)

The method of claim 16 and further comprising:
clamping the pan and barrier to the base using a fastener passing through an aperture in the base.

### Claim 18 (depends on 17)

The method of claim 17 and further comprising:
coupling a jig to the base to guide the cutting tool; and
positioning the barrier such that the opening is between the jig and barrier.

### Claim 19 (depends on 18)

The method of claim 18 and further comprising:
coupling a tube to the outlet; and
coupling a vacuum to the tube to provide suction to the outlet.

### Claim 20 (depends on 14)

The method of claim 14 and further comprising;
providing a cover to at least partially cover the opening.
