## CPC

- G02C 13/008: {Devices specially adapted for cleaning contact lenses}
- G02C: SPECTACLES; SUNGLASSES OR GOGGLES INSOFAR AS THEY HAVE THE SAME FEATURES AS SPECTACLES; CONTACT LENSES (trial frames for testing the eyes A61B3/04; goggles or eyeshields not having the same features as spectacles A61F9/00)

## Abstract

A limited use apparatus for treating contact lenses is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a case having a body and a left and right cover which are joinable to form chambers for receiving the lenses. Each of the chambers has an operative face for receiving the lens. A reactive layer is provided on a portion of each operative face. The operative faces and the reactive layers are dimensioned and arranged whereby the reactive layers come into engagement with respective optical surfaces of a lens positioned there-between when the cover and body are joined together.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An apparatus for cleaning a contact lens having a contaminated optical surface, comprising: a lens containment device, said device including a non-abrasive reactive surface shaped and positioned to establish a contiguous engagement between an optical surface of the lens and the reactive surface, and said reactive surface comprising a thermoplastic elastomer compounded with a fluorinated additive.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The lens cleaning apparatus of claim 1 wherein said thermoplastic elastomer is a styrenic block copolymer elastomer.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The lens cleaning apparatus of claim 2 wherein said thermoplastic elastomer is based on styrene-ethylene/butylenes-styrene polymers.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The lens cleaning apparatus of claim 1 wherein said fluorinated additive is a fluorinated synthetic oil.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The lens cleaning apparatus of claim 4 wherein said fluorinated additive is present in an amount of 0.1 to 5 per cent by weight of said thermoplastic elastomer.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The lens cleaning apparatus of claim 5 wherein said fluorinated additive is present in an amount of 0.1 to 2 per cent by weight of said thermoplastic elastomer.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The lens cleaning apparatus of claim 6 wherein said fluorinated additive is present in an amount of 0.5 to 2 per cent by weight of said thermoplastic elastomer.

### Claim 8 (depends on 5)

The lens cleaning apparatus of claim 5 wherein said reactive surface has a Shore A hardness of 25 to 60.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The lens cleaning apparatus of claim 8 wherein said reactive surface has a Shore A hardness of 35 to 50.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The lens cleaning apparatus of claim 9 wherein said reactive surface has a Shore A hardness of 40 to 45.

### Claim 11

An apparatus for cleaning a contact lens having an optical surface and contaminated with contaminant matter, comprising: a non-abrasive reactive surface shaped and positioned to establish a contiguous engagement between an optical surface of the lens and the reactive surface, said reactive surface comprising a thermoplastic elastomer compounded with a fluorinated additive wherein said thermoplastic elastomer is based on styrene-ethylene/butylene-styrene polymers and said fluorinated additive is a perfluoropolyether.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The lens cleaning apparatus of claim 11 wherein said fluorinated additive is present in an amount of 0.1 to 5 per cent by weight of said thermoplastic elastomer.

### Claim 13 (depends on 12)

The lens cleaning apparatus of claim 12 wherein said fluorinated additive is present in an amount of 0.1 to 2 per cent by weight of said thermoplastic elastomer.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The lens cleaning apparatus of claim 13 wherein said fluorinated additive is present in an amount of 0.5 to 2 per cent by weight of said thermoplastic elastomer.

### Claim 15 (depends on 12)

The lens cleaning apparatus of claim 12 wherein said reactive layer has a Shore A hardness of 25 to 60.

### Claim 16 (depends on 15)

The lens cleaning apparatus of claim 15 wherein said reactive surface has a Shore A hardness of 35 to 50.

### Claim 17 (depends on 16)

The lens cleaning apparatus of claim 16 wherein said reactive surface has a Shore A hardness of 40 to 45.
