System and method for determining execution path difference in program

A method of determining execution path differences in a computer-implemented software application, comprising:

• executing the software application and generating a first call tree comprising a first plurality of linked nodes describing a first execution path of the software application and storing a first set of execution data;
• executing the software application again and generating a second call tree comprising a second plurality of linked nodes describing a second execution path of the software application and storing a second set of execution data;
• comparing the first and second call trees and determining a set of differences between the first and second execution paths and/or the first and second sets of execution data, the set of differences comprising one or more nodes that are either called differently in the first and second execution paths or executed differently in the first and second sets of execution data;
• and
• for each node in the set of differences, analyzing the first and second call trees to identify at least one parent node that is the root cause of the difference in the execution of each node in the set of differences.
