Abstract
A pseudo-random number generator is employed to provide the same results normally produced by hash functions. In particular, input character string data is employed to sequentially adjust the seed of a pseudo-random number generator to produce hash values.
Claims6
A method for generating a hash function value for an input string, said method comprising the step of:
- generating said hash value for a character in said input stream as the output of a pseudo-random number generator whose seed is adjusted as a deterministic function of a previously presented character.
A computer program product comprising a machine readable medium having instructions encoded therein for generating a hash function value for an input character string in which said hash value for a character in said input stream is generated as the output of a pseudo-random number generator whose seed is adjusted as a deterministic function of said character.
A data processing system having including a memory for stored program execution by said system, said memory having code therein for generating hash values for a character in an input data stream as the output of a pseudo-random number generator whose seed is adjusted as a deterministic function of a previously presented character.
