Abstract
A method and system for determining damage prediction of a component. The component may be critical component used in an aircraft or other vehicle experiencing cyclic loading. The method and system determines the ΔK, Kmax and Kinternal values for the component and utilizes these values in order to predict damage and/or failure of the component.

A method for component damage prediction comprising:
- determining ΔKappl of the component;
- determining Kmax,appl of the component;
- determining Kint of the component;
- wherein the ΔKappl and the ΔKint of the component are used to determine ΔKtotal of the component;
- and
- using the Kmax,total the Kint and the ΔKtotal of the component to predict damage to the component.

A system for component damage prediction comprising:
- a sensor enabled to determine empirical data related to the component;
- a receiver operably connected to a computer;
- a database operably connected to the computer, wherein material data related to the component is stored;
- wherein the computer is programmed to use the empirical data and the material data related to the component in order to predict damage;
- and
- wherein the experimental data and the material data are further used to determine ΔKappl Kmax,appl and Kint of the component.

- determining ΔKappl of the component;
- determining Kmax,total of the component;
- determining Kint of the component, wherein the step of determining Kint is performed using a non-destructive method;
- wherein at least one of the steps of determining the ΔKappl, the Kmax, and the Kint is performed using a sensor;
- using the Kmax, the Kint and the ΔKtotal of the component to predict damage to the component, wherein the step of using the Kmax,total the Kint and the ΔKtotal of the component to predict damage to the component comprises utilizing the relationship (da/dN)=C {ΔK1-ptotal Kpmax,total}γ.
