Abstract
This invention relates to benzonitrile derivatives of formula (I) or pharmaceutically acceptable salts, solvates or derivative thereof, wherein R1 to R3 are defined in the description, to their use in medicine, and to compositions containing them. The compounds of the present invention bind to the enzyme reverse transcriptase and are modulators, especially inhibitors thereof.

- R3 is —(CH2)mOH, —(CH2)mOC(O)NR4R5, —(CH2)mNR4R5, or —(CH2)mNHC(O)NR4R5;
- R4 and R5 independently are H or (C1-C4)alkyl;
- m is 1, 2, 3 or 4.
A compound according to claim 1, wherein R4 is (C1-C4)alkyl.
A compound according to claim 1, wherein R4 is (C1%)alkyl or trifluoromethyl.
A compound according to claim 1, wherein R3 is —(CH2)mOH, —(CH2)mOC(O)NR4R5, or —(CH2)mNR4R5.
A compound according to claim 1, wherein R4 and R5 are H.
A compound according to claim 1, wherein m is 1 or 2.
A pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound of claim 1, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof together with one or more pharmaceutically acceptable excipients, diluents or carriers.
A pharmaceutical composition according to claim 1 including one or more additional therapeutic agents.
A method of treatment of a mammal with a reverse transcriptase inhibitor or modulator, which comprises treating said mammal with an effective amount of a compound of claim 1 or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
