Abstract
This invention provides novel methods of treatment to ameliorate or prevent cognitive disorder/dysfunction in pre- or asymptomatic subject having one or more mutations in the Huntington gene. The methods involve increasing the expression or activity of the neurotrophin BDNS in the brain of said subject.
Claims27
A method of preserving or improving cognitive function in a presymtomatic or asymptomatic mammal having one or more mutations predisposing said mammal to Huntington's disease, said method comprising:
- maintaining or increasing the BDNF level or activity in the brain of said mammal.
The use of a compound that increases the level or activity of BDNF in a mammal in the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment or prevention of cognitive dysfunction in a pre- or asymptomatic mammal having one or more mutations in the Huntington gene.
A kit for the treatment or prevention of cognitive dysfunction in a pre- or asymptomatic mammal having one or more mutations in the Huntington gene, said kit comprising:
- a container containing one or more agents that increase the expression or activity of BDNF in a mammal;
- and
- instructional materials teaching the use of said agents to mitigate or prevent cognitive disorder in a presymptomatic or asymptomatic mammal diagnosed with one or more mutations in a Huntington gene.
