Abstract
3,4-Diaminopyridine derivatives corresponding to a specified formula are produced by (a) reacting 3,4-diaminopyridine with a 1,2-dicarbonyl compound to form a diimine; (b) reducing the diimine to a diamine; and (c) replacing at least a hydrogen atom on nitrogen at position 4 of the pyridine ring. These compounds are useful as catalysts.

A 3,4-diaminopyridine derivative corresponding to Formula I
- in which
- R1 and R2 are each, independently of one another, electron donors, with R2 also representing H;
- and
- R3, R4, R5 and R6 are each selected independently from among H, substituted or unsubstituted, straight-chain or branched alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, alkoxy and substituted or unsubstituted aryl groups, with the radicals R3 and/or R4 together with the radicals R5 and/or R6 being able to form a ring.
