Abstract
A housing (60) has two side walls (67) and a covering wall (66) that define a U-shaped channel for covering terminal fittings (20). The housing (60) is mounted on a printed-circuit board (90) so that the U-shaped channel and the circuit board (90) define a bag-shaped space (70). The U-shaped channel of the housing (60) and the circuit board (90) are accommodated in a case (30) so that the bag-shaped space (70) faces down. A potting material (40) then is introduced into the case (30). Air vents (73) are formed through the covering wall (66) and provide communication between the bag-shaped space (70) and an outer surface of the covering wall (66). Thus, air trapped in the bag-shaped space (70) is discharged to the outside through the air vents (73).
Claims15
A connector (10) for use on a substrate, comprising:
- a housing (60) placed on a printed-circuit board (90);
- terminal fittings (20) mounted in the housing (60) and connected respectively with conductive paths of the printed-circuit board (90);
- a covering wall (66) projected rearward from a rear wall (63) of the housing (60) and covering the terminal fittings (20);
- two side walls (67) projected rearward from the rear wall (63) of the housing (60) and being continuous with opposite widthwise sides of the covering wall (66), wall surfaces of the side walls (67) intersecting a wall surface of said covering wall (66);
- a rearwardly open bag-shaped space (70) being formed by the covering wall (66), the side walls (67), and the printed-circuit board (90);
- the housing (60) and the printed-circuit board (90) being accommodated in a case (30) with a front portion of the housing (60) disposed beyond an open surface of the case (30) and with a rear portion thereof, including the bag-shaped space (70), covered with a sealing material (40) introduced into the case (30);
- and
- at least one air vent (73) formed through the covering wall (66) for communicating the bag-shaped space (70) with an outer surface of the covering wall (66).
A connector (10), comprising a housing (60) having opposite front and rear ends, a forwardly open hood (61) at the front end of the housing (60), a rear wall (63) extending transversely across the hood (61) between the front and rear ends of the housing (60), a U-shaped channel extending rearwardly from the rear wall (63), the U-shaped channel being defined by opposed side walls (67) extending from the rear wall (63) towards the rear end of the housing (60) and a covering wall (66) connecting the side walls (67), at least one air vent (73) extending through the covering wall (66).
A method of assembling a connector for use in a substrate, comprising the steps of:
- accommodating a housing (60) on a printed-circuit board (90) inside a case (30) with said open end of the case (30) turned up and with a front surface of said housing (60) turned up;
- charging a sealing material (40) into the case (30);
- and
- removing air present in said sealing material (40) charged into said bag-shaped space (70) through at least one air vent (73).
