Abstract
A method of perforating a membrane 10 and apparatus therefore is presented. The method comprises: bringing a membrane-denaturing substance into contact with or close proximity to at least a site of said membrane 10, said substance inducing a membrane-denaturing reaction by a stimulus; providing said stimulus to said substance so as to denature said membrane 10; perforating said membrane with a membrane-destroying member 1. The stimulus is carried through said membrane-destroying member 1. The present invention eliminates the influence of membrane-denaturing agent to the substance to be injected into the cell. The present invention also enables applying the stimulus locally, with a simple construction.
Claims18
An apparatus for perforating a membrane, said membrane being a cell membrane, intracellular membrane, or artificial lipid membrane, said apparatus comprising:
- a membrane-destroying member for supporting a photosensitizer or photocatalyst as a membrane-denaturing substance that induces a membrane-denaturing reaction by light;
- and
- a light source;
- wherein said light supplied by said light source is transmitted to said photosensitizer or photocatalyst through said membrane-destroying member, said photosensitizer or photocatalyst is brought in contact with or close proximity to at least a site of said membrane by said membrane-destroying member, and said light is given to said photosensitizer or photocatalyst so as to perforate said membrane by said membrane-destroying member.
An apparatus for perforating a membrane, said membrane being a cell membrane, intracellular membrane, or artificial lipid membrane, said apparatus comprising:
- a light source;
- and
- a membrane-destroying member, said member supporting a photosensitizer or photocatalyst as a membrane-denaturing substance that induces a membrane-denaturing reaction by light and bringing said photosensitizer or photocatalyst in contact with or close proximity to at least a site of said membrane, and
- said membrane-destroying member carrying the light supplied by said light source to said photosensitizer or photocatalyst so as to perforate said membrane.
