Abstract
Disclosed is a method for manufacturing a template for a high-density patterned medium and a high-density magnetic storage medium using the same. In the method, magnetic particles are used as a mask and no lithographic process is required.
Claims16
A method for forming a template for a high-density patterned medium, the method comprising:
- applying a colloidal solution of magnetic particles to the surface of the substrate, the colloidal solution comprising a solvent and the magnetic particles;
- forming a uniform arrangement of the magnetic particles on the substrate;
- forming a magnetic particle layer on the substrate by removing the solvent of the colloidal solution from the surface of the substrate;
- etching the substrate by using nanoparticle layer as a mask;
- and
- removing the magnetic particles from the substrate.

A high-density magnetic storage medium comprising:
- a substrate having a surface;
- a perpendicular magnetic recording layer formed on the surface of the substrate;
- and
- a magnetic particle layer in which magnetic particles are arranged to form a pattern on the perpendicular magnetic recording layer.
