Abstract
Mechanisms are provided for allowing a streaming server to efficiently provide frames associated with a media stream to a client device. A streaming server receives multiple media streams and determines which frames in the multiple media streams are key frames. When a connection request is received from a client device, a key frame is selected and provided to the client device. A client device receiving a key frame does not have to drop any predictive frames prior to playing a media stream.
Claims20
A method, comprising:
- receiving a media stream including a plurality a frames, the media stream received at a streaming server;
- identifying a key frame included in the plurality of frames, wherein the plurality of frames also includes a plurality of predictive frames;
- receiving a connection request from a client device, the connection request associated with the media stream;
- providing the key frame to the client device in response to the connection request.

An apparatus, comprising:
- means for receiving a media stream including a plurality a frames, the media stream received at a streaming server;
- means for identifying a key frame included in the plurality of frames, wherein the plurality of frames also includes a plurality of predictive frames;
- means for receiving a connection request from a client device, the connection request associated with the media stream;
- means for providing the key frame to the client device in response to the connection request.

- computer code for receiving a media stream including a plurality a frames, the media stream received at a streaming server;
