Abstract
A surface has a vacuum and a vacuum relief.

An apparatus for comprising:
- a surface having a perimeter edge;
- vacuum ports extending through the surface;
- a vacuum source in communication with the ports and at a first pressure;
- and
- a vacuum relief proximate to the edge of the surface and at a greater pressure.

- positioning a medium having a medium edge upon a surface having a surface edge, wherein at least a portion of the medium edge extends to or beyond the surface edge;
- applying a vacuum at a first pressure to the medium surface to retain the medium against the surface;
- venting air to one or more recesses in the surface proximate a surface edge;
- and
- depositing fluid onto the medium adjacent the medium edge.
