Abstract
A motion sensor incorporates an internal light source, typically a super bright LED. A multi-lens system or an arrangement of small windows in front of the LED projects a visible light pattern that mimics the detection pattern of the motion sensor to an observer standing in the detection zone and looking at the sensor.
Claims20
A motion sensor comprising:
- an enclosure;
- an alignment light within the enclosure;
- a sensing element installed in the enclosure having a detection zone exterior to the enclosure;
- and
- optical projection elements installed on or within the enclosure and relative to the alignment light source to project light emitted from the alignment light in a pattern which is substantially within a target area defined by the detection zone.

A motion sensor as set forth in claim 3, wherein the sensing element is a passive infrared detector.
A motion sensor comprising:
- an enclosure;
- a sensing element installed in the enclosure having a detection zone exterior to the enclosure;
- an alignment light within the enclosure activated in response to installer selected conditions;
- optical projection elements installed on or within the enclosure and relative to the alignment light to project light emitted from the alignment light visible only to an observer located within a target area for the detection zone.
