Abstract
According to one aspect, a method is provided for determining a state of a receiver on a transmission line. The method may comprise, for example, evaluating a first voltage arising at a circuit point between an impedance and a transmission line coupled to the impedance, wherein the impedance is coupled between a transmitter and the receiver, and determining a state of the receiver based on the first voltage. According to further aspects, various apparatuses are provided for performing this and other methods.

A method for determining a state of a receiver on a transmission line, comprising:
- evaluating a first voltage arising at a circuit point between an impedance and a transmission line coupled to the impedance, wherein the impedance is coupled between a transmitter and the receiver;
- and
- determining a state of the receiver based on the first voltage.
A method for determining a state of a receiver, comprising:
- applying a first voltage across a first circuit point and a second circuit point;
- evaluating a second voltage that arises between a third circuit point and the second circuit point, wherein the receiver is coupled to a transmission line between the second and third circuit points and a reference impedance is coupled between the first and third circuit points;
- and
- determining a state of the receiver based on the second voltage.
An apparatus for determining a state of a receiver on a transmission line, comprising:
- a reference impedance coupled to the transmission line;
- a first circuit portion configured to apply a first voltage to a first circuit point;
- a second circuit portion configured to measure a second voltage arising at a second circuit point between the reference impedance and the transmission line as a result of the applied first voltage;
- and
- a controller configured to generate a signal based on the second voltage.
An apparatus, comprising:
- an amplifier configured to receive a first signal at a first frequency and to generate at an output of the amplifier a second signal at the first frequency;
- an impedance coupled to the output of the amplifier;
- a comparator having a first input coupled to the impedance and a second input coupled to a reference voltage;
- and
- a controller configured to control a state of the amplifier, to receive an output of the comparator, and to generate a third signal based on the output of the comparator.
An apparatus for determining a state of a receiver on a transmission line, comprising:
- a reference impedance coupled to the transmission line;
- means for applying a first voltage to a first circuit point;
- means for measuring a second voltage arising at a second circuit point between the reference impedance and the transmission line as a result of the applied first voltage;
- and
- means for generating a signal based on the second voltage.
