Abstract
A post has a rectangular cross-sectional shape and mounted on one end of the post is a protective sleeve. The sleeve provides a cylindrical sidewall within which one end of the rectangular elastomeric seal is engaged with the sidewall peripheral to the post. A pair of L-shaped moldings are mounted exterior to the elastomeric seal providing engagement within a groove of the elastomeric seal and exerting a sealing force against the elastomeric seal and the post.
Claims13
A protective sleeve apparatus for receiving and protecting one end of a structural post, the apparatus comprising:
- a) a cylindrical sidewall;
- b) a bottom cap;
- c) a pair of L-shaped moldings;
- and
- d) a rectangular peripheral elastomeric seal;
- the cap engaged with a bottom end of the cylindrical sidewall;
- a top edge of the sidewall positioned within a downwardly directed first groove of the elastomeric seal;
- the moldings positioned around the elastomeric seal with terminal ends of the moldings mutually joined, thereby securing the moldings to the elastomeric seal and the sidewall.
A structural post apparatus with protective engagement on one end thereof comprising:
- A) an elongate post having a rectangular cross-sectional shape and opposing terminal ends;
- and
- B) a protective sleeve, the sleeve providing:
- a) a cylindrical sidewall, one of the terminal ends of the post engaged therein;
- b) a bottom cap;
- c) a pair of L-shaped moldings;
- and
- d) a rectangular peripheral elastomeric seal;
- the cap engaged with a bottom end of the cylindrical sidewall;
- a top edge of the sidewall positioned within a downwardly directed first groove of the elastomeric seal;
- the moldings positioned around the elastomeric seal with terminal ends of the moldings mutually joined in such manner as to secure the moldings to the elastomeric seal, securing the elastomeric seal to the sidewall, and forcing the elastomeric seal against the post thereby securing the protective sleeve to the post for preventing moisture to enter between the elastomeric seal and the post.
A protective sleeve apparatus for receiving and protecting one end of a structural post, the apparatus comprising:
- a cylindrical sidewall closed at one end and open at another end thereof;
- a peripheral elastomeric seal having a first peripheral groove positioned for entry from below and a second peripheral groove positioned for entry from the side;
- a top edge of the another end of the sidewall positioned within the first groove of the elastomeric seal;
- a peripheral molding positioned around the elastomeric seal with interior ridges of the molding protruding into the second peripheral groove of the elastomeric seal;
- and a means for tightening the molding circumferentially about the elastomeric seal so as to cinch the elastomeric seal against the sidewall.
