Abstract
The setting of interruption initiatives is directly initiated by external adapters. An adapter external to the processors at which the initiative is to be made pending sends a request directly to a system controller coupled to the adapter and the processors. The system controller then broadcasts a command to the processors instructing the processors to set the interruption initiative.
Claims20
A method of initiating the setting of interruption initiatives within a processing environment, said processing environment comprising at least one processor, and said method comprising:
- directly initiating by an adapter external to the at least one processor of the processing environment a setting of an interruption initiative at one or more processors of the processing environment, wherein the directly initiating is absent use of firmware of the processing environment.
A system of initiating the setting of interruption initiatives within a processing environment, said system comprising:
- an input/output component;
- and
- a system controller coupled to and external from the input/output component to obtain a request directly sent to the system controller from the input/output component, said request initiating the setting of an interruption initiative at one or more processors coupled to and external from the input/output component.
An article of manufacture comprising:
- at least one computer usable medium having computer readable program code logic to initiate the setting of interruption initiatives within a processing environment, said computer readable program code logic when executing performing the following:
- obtaining by a system controller of the processing environment a request directly sent to the system controller from an input/output component, said input/output component being external to the system controller, and said request initiating the setting of an interruption initiative;
- and
- forwarding from said system controller to one or more processors coupled to the system controller and external to the input/output component a command based on the request instructing the one or more processors to set the interruption initiative at the one or more processors.
