Knee Joint Prosthesis System and Method for Implantation

A knee joint prosthesis system comprising:

• a femoral component having a first attachment portion formed thereon;
• a tibial component having a second attachment portion formed thereon;
• and
• a first adapter having a first adapter engagement portion defining a first axis and a second adapter engagement portion defining a second axis, the first and second axes being parallel and offset;
• wherein the first adapter engagement portion is operable to intraoperatively couple with the first attachment portion or the second attachment portion.

A method of performing knee surgery, the method comprising:

• providing a plurality of femoral components each having a first attachment portion formed thereon and a plurality of tibial components each having a second attachment portion formed thereon;
• providing a plurality of adapters each having a first adapter engagement portion defining a first axis and a second adapter engagement portion defining a second axis, the first and second axes being offset, wherein one adapter of the plurality of adapters has an offset distinct from another adapter of the plurality of adapters and wherein the first adapter engagement portion of each of the plurality of adapters is operable to couple with the first attachment portion or the second attachment portion;
• providing a plurality of stems having various lengths or diameters, each of the plurality of stems defining a stem engagement portion that is operable to couple with the first attachment portion, the second attachment portion or the second adapter engagement portion;
• determining a desired implant configuration from the femoral component, tibial component, plurality of adapters and plurality of stems;
• and
• intraoperatively coupling the desired configuration.

A knee joint prosthesis system comprising:

• a femoral component having a superiorly extending portion formed thereon;
• a tibial component having an inferiorly extending portion formed thereon;
• and
• a plurality of augments each defining a passage having a conical engaging surface, wherein each of the plurality of augments are operable to couple with the superiorly extending portion of the femoral component or the inferiorly extending portion of the tibial component.
