A spine distraction implant alleviates pain associated with spinal stenosis and facet arthropathy by expanding the volume in the spine canal and/or neural foramen. The implant provides a spinal extension stop while allowing freedom of spinal flexion.

An apparatus, comprising:
- a first shaft having a distal end portion;
- and
- a second shaft moveably disposed within the first shaft and having a distal end portion, the distal end portion of the first shaft and the distal end portion of the second collectively configured to removably engage an interspinous-process implant.
An apparatus, comprising:
- an insertion tool having a first engagement portion and a second engagement portion, the first engagement portion configured to removably engage an interspinous-process implant from a first direction relative to the interspinous-process implant, the second engagement portion configured to removably engage the interspinous-process implant from a second direction non-parallel to the first direction.
An apparatus, comprising:
- an insertion tool having an elongate distal end portion defining a longitudinal axis, the distal end portion having a first engagement portion and a second engagement portion, the first engagement portion is configured to align the interspinous-process implant relative to the insertion tool, the second engagement portion configured to removably engage an interspinous-process implant from a direction substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis.
