Abstract
The present invention relates to the use of phenothiaziniums and microbial MDR inhibitors to inactivate microorganisms. Methods of the present invention are useful in the treatment of living subjects and in the decontamination of inanimate objects and substances.
Claims62
A method of inactivating microorganisms comprising contacting the microorganism with a phenothiazinium and a microbial MDR inhibitor and irradiating the phenothiazinium such that a phototoxic species is produced that inactivates the microorganism.
A method of treating a subject infected with a microorganism, said method comprising the steps of administering a phenothiazinium and a microbial MDR inhibitor to the subject, irradiating the phenothiazinium such that a phototoxic species is produced that inactivates the microorganism, thereby treating the subject.
A kit for inactivating microorganisms comprising a phenothiazinium, a microbial MDR inhibitor and directions for use.
A kit for treating a subject contaminated with bacterial spores comprising a photosensitizer and instructions for use.
