Method and apparatus to provide dynamic cost of context switch to application for performance optimization

An apparatus for performing dynamic context switch determination, the apparatus comprising:

• a processor;
• and
• a memory coupled to the processor, wherein the memory contains instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:
• obtain an average context switch time;
• obtain an average response time;
• responsive to a first application running on a processor making a request for a resource, compare the average context switch time to the average response time;
• and
• determine whether to perform a context switch from the first application to a second application based on a result of the comparison.

A computer program product comprising a computer useable medium having a computer readable program, wherein the computer readable program, when executed on a computing device, causes the computing device to:

• obtain an average context switch time;
• obtain an average response time;
• responsive to a first application running on a processor making a request for a resource, compare the average context switch time to the average response time;
• and
• determine whether to perform a context switch from the first application to a second application based on a result of the comparison.
